EV Charger – Replaced!

Over the past 12 months TRY has missed a working community charger in Yackandandah, following the failure of our Tritium 50kW EV Charger. However, we are excited to announce that TRY and YCDCo have partnered to install a new EV charger which is now operational in the Windham St carpark.

While it has been frustrating not to have an operational EV Charger for an extended period, a few TRY volunteers have spent a lot of time and energy identifying a new solution and collaborated with YCDCo to make that happen. TRY and YCDCo have co-funded the replacement EV charger, with a welcome contribution from the Yack Community Centre. The original charger was made possible by the Victorian Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria (DCAV) program, YCDCo and Halliday Solicitors, with a helpful seating bench for charger users donated by Ben Gilbert’s Agency of Sculpture.

An Ocular DC Titan EV Charger replaced the faulty charger in the first week of July and is already operational. YCDCo will own and operate the charger on behalf of the community, and we hope it will be a fresh start on a broader charging strategy across the township.

Like many others around Australia, this replacement has been necessary after the collapse of Tritium, the manufacturer of the previous charger. As with all new technologies and emerging industries, there are often a few false starts – which is why bravery and a willingness to adapt is vital when embracing change.

TRY and our partners recognise the importance of an EV Charger in Yack, with a customer survey during the original charger’s operation showing many users were visitors to Yack because of the charger – and spent money in local businesses to boot! Not to mention the convenience of the charger to many local users.

The EV Charger is listed on PlugShare, so we look forward to the new faces it will bring to Yack once more, and those electrified locals who welcome it’s return!
